Did you know that throughout the world, 3 to 6 billion trees are cut down each and every year. The fact is that the items that are made from trees are essential for our daily living. Writing paper and household toilet papers are an illustration of this, as well as the wood used to make homes. We all should assume responsibility in maintaining our forests even if there are products we have to use that are made from trees.

Although we have Arbor Day, and all of us must plant a tree every Arbor Day, that is only taking care of a small part of the problem. Planting trees is not something that most individuals give any thought to. It would help, obviously, if everyone planted a tree.

Would you believe that there are about 7 billion people right now? That is simply an estimation because you can’t keep an exact count. However, if each of those 7 billion folks went out and planted a tree every Arbor Day, we would be replacing all the trees that were dropped that year. The likelihood of this occurring is small.

And so, the answer is for those of you who care about the environment and want oxygen so you can live, plant a tree. When it comes to planting a tree, I would not suggest you just do this on a specific day every year. How about each week or at least every month? It is just a fact that a lot of folks will refuse to give any thought to conservation or planting trees, so we must compensate for this ourselves.

Would you believe that on Arbor Day, only between 8 and 15 million trees are planted? So every year, we have a deficit roughly 5 billion trees. And annually, it just keeps getting worse.

A complete answer is called for that still encourages individuals to plant trees but I would also suggest the following. What could really solve this problem is if every lumber company or tree farmer, by law, had to plant two saplings for each tree they take, so our tree issue wouldn’t be an issue for long.

We are going to have to continue to resolve this situation ourselves until there is the political willpower to make these changes. In reality, restoring the number of trees required is definitely doable. If each month, around 10% of people on the planet could plant a tree, that would make up for the numbers being cut down yearly. Annually, this would mean the planting of more or less 7 billion trees. And that 1 billion extra trees are precisely what we need in order to get our tree population back to where it has to be.

Planting a tree is a way people can make a contribution to the planet. Don’t forget that we only need 10% of everyone on the planet to commit to this. And you may be one of them.
